Various engine bay related tasks completed
Various tasks completed over the last few days...
Headers -I started off by cutting down part of the heat shield bolts on the headers. Without these trimmed off the headers just won't fit as the additional ladder frame type chassis bars on the AK Gen3 are in the way. I smoothed all of the areas in question off and now the headers fit fine, they just need to come back off for painting. I also refitted the ignition coils and plugs.
Engine Covers - I wanted to check the LS3 engine covers I purchased fitted ok, more to see what they look like than anything else. I am very pleased with them. They will come off again until the car is ready so as to keep them pristine condition, I may look to see if I can some how replace the Corvette wording on these with Cobra...
Order placed for propshaft - We also measured requirements for the propshaft and liaised with Bailey Morris (the best place for propshafts). We already have 2 propyolks which we have now shipped to Bailey Morris and they will be supplying the other.
Washer Bottle - I set about drilling and tapping holes for the washer bottle to mirror the header. This was an expensive item however I am really pleased I purchased this as it looks really good in situ with the header tank..
Power Steering - I fitted the power steering pipes, one of which was rather tricky and required me to remove the water pump. I am just waiting for a nice hose finisher that I have purchased before connecting the other pipe.
Alternator / Earth point - I moved on to fitting the alternator, which was a fairly straight forward job and then drilled and tapped a hole ready for fitting a good earth strap from the engine to the chassis. I made doubly sure to remove all of the chassis powder coating so as it has the best earthing contact possible. I now just waiting for the earth strap to arrive.
Radiator / Fan / Filter - I fitted the radiator and fan back on to the chassis so I could check on clearance for the K&N Air Filter. The hose connecting the air intake pipe requires cutting down so that the end sits almost level with the washer bottle and header tank, this should then give the K&N filter enough clearance to stop it from fouling the fan. Once I have completed this I will be taking the radiator back off and spraying with Eastwood High Temperature Car Radiator Paint, aiming to do all of ours in one go!
