AK loom 'Leg1 Connections to Engine' (includes connection info for reference)
It was time to tackle the wiring connections in the engine bay from the AK Loom (listed in the manual as Leg1 connections to engine). Most were self explanatory however there were a few that I was unsure about, especially in light of using the new Canems ECU which AK hadn't yet used! I have documented/taken photos of some of the connections that I struggled to know what to do with! Hopefully this will help others out, and also remind me what I have done just in case I ever build another!!
The above cables are labelled for the alternator however as I am using the new Canems ECU you only need to use the Red (thick) cable. This needs to screw on to the rear peg on the alternator. The blue wire is not required. Dave at Canems also confirmed that as I am using their connector on the top of the alternator (see above righthand photo) there is no requirement for a jumper wire either (unlike what is outlined in the AK manual)
The above photo is unfortunately not that clear, its the connector (Red/Orange wire) going to the Temperature Sensor on the side of the engine.
Dave at Canems confirmed where these two wires need to go. The connectors in the righthand photo on the oil pressure sender (i think that's the name of it) are marked above each connector. The yellow covered cable (coloured brown/white under heat shrink) is the Oil Pressure Gauge Sender Unit, this needs to go on the terminal with a G above it (see righthand photo). The black covered cable (coloured brown/black under heat shrink) is marked as the Oil Pressure Light Sender Unit and needs to go on the terminal with WK above it (see above righthand photo)
The above cables are marked in the AK manual as Violet/Black - To ballast resistor if used or to +VE side of coil if not used. separate coil/distributor cap, and Pink as - VEW side of Coil (Tacho). Neil at AK confirmed these are not required as we are using Canems ECU. These are only used on older engines that do not have an ECU..
The other connections that I haven't mentioned in the above blog update are, two Red (thick) cables both of which go to the starter/battery live connection, and the White cable (starter Solenoid (Cranking) which goes on a terminal on the starter motor. Both of these were covered in a previous blog update.
