Fuel Filler Hose/Breather Pipe, Side Repeaters, Bonnet, Boot & Door Locks, Numberplate Light
So I've been doing various jobs over the last few days.
I started by fitting the fuel filler hose and breather pipe. All will need to come back off prior to paint, however I wanted to cut the hoses to length, and the holes in the side of the boot, to ensure it all fitted in place as planned. I had difficulty getting the very top steel wire hose clip to stay in place on the flange, as there is not much area to secure it, so I used a jubilee clip for this end. We had to purchase some additional braided hose for the breather pipe, once received I fitted this in place with jubilee clips. I need to tidy up the holes in the body where the pipes come through the boot and will do this once it's back in place for its final fitting.
I also marked up and drilled the holes for the side repeaters. I must have measured 101 times to ensure I was getting either side the same. I am pleased with how they look and their location.
We are getting our Cobras sprayed by SMS Autospray and after chatting with them again it was decided best not to bond the door lock catches (strikers) in so as to allow them to get the shut lines correct. I did however put the door locks on which I thought would be a really simple job, but leaving a 4mm gap all round for the door cards (I placed a 4mm nut between the door body and door lock) and screwing the 4 screws in place wasn't as easy as I thought. I replaced some of the screws as they were just too soft and burring, I also had to use a Dremmel on the top flat right hand section of the door lock as the metal was too close to the screw head when screwing it in. All now done though....
Next up was the bonnet and boot locks. Again I measured up numerous times before I was happy cutting the various holes in the body. The bonnet locks are in place however I will be making up some plates for the bonnet locking catches and fixing these in place once I have fitted the gas rams
The boot lock was a bit more tricky, especially fitting the locking catch. I resorted to using my phone and videoing inside the boot whilst working the lock mechanism. The lock catch needed to be fitted very close to the body edge so I filed some away to get this in place. I am waiting for a delivery of self tapping screws to finish the boot handle off and once complete I will cut the bar down inside the boot...
The numberplate light doesn't sit very well in the moulded space allocated for it but I am happy with the location and at least it looks central and lines up with the boot lock..
I also revisited the opening I had made inside the passenger wheel arch to allow additional space for the alternator (it hits the side of the body on the AK Gen3). I wasn't fully happy with the space I had left on one side of the alternator so I decided to open up the hole a little more. I am now much more happy with the space left and I just need to repair some of the fibreglass within the wheel arch
